Poorte struggle against heavy Wanderers pack

Uncharacteristically Poorte did not start the match on a high note and as a result, the home side conceded a number of easy tries that dented their chances of registering their first victory.

Saturday, 15 May saw the Roodepoort Rugby Club (RRC) attempting to accelerate their steady campaign in the first leg of the Pirates Grand Challenge League against Wanderers Rugby Club at Scorpion Park.

Wanderers displayed dominance over the hosts in the early stages, orchestrating a number of positive moves that came as a result of the opponents’ errors and poor defence.

Wanderers continued with their stampede against a disorganised Poorte defence, but that changed after the halfway mark as the Roodepoort men came back rejuvenated.

Poorte played with more determination and firmness before they scored three deserved tries, but that was too little too late as the damage had already been done.

Wanderers beat Roodepoort 57–21 at the final whistle, forcing the home side to go back to the drawing board.
