Roodepoort RC women teams claim impressive victories

Wits could not keep their defensive wall standing as the Roodepoort team initiated a convoy of effective attacks displaying some strong running rugby that proved to be fruitful at the close of play.

On Saturday, 15 May Roodepoort Rugby Club Women’s teams tasted victory when they went head to head with Wits and Zondi at Scorpion Park in the Pirates Grand Challenge Golden Lions women’s rugby league.

Mastercard ladies team 1 played with determination and made their presence felt when they won 46–10 against Wits in a match that sent a strong message to other league contenders.

Mastercard’s ladies team 2 showed character and did not disappoint when they took on the hard-to-beat Zondi team at the same venue.

In a much more competitive match Roodepoort won the encounter 22–0 with both sides showing signs of dominance at the breakdown, but Zondi got punished due to some handling errors and sloppy defence.

“We have two proper teams that can surely put on display that women’s rugby is a big thing. The victory is good for the club as we continue to grow this team and make it one to watch out for.

“We would like to congratulate S Mashapa from SAPS Roodepoort ladies team for making the Mastercard Golden Lions Rugby Union team,” said Roodepoort RC chairman, Mathys Booyens.
