Athletes nurtured at Ruimsig stadium
The academy, established in 2010, has its base in Randburg but following requests to open another branch on the West Rand, they set up at Ruimsig Stadium as well.
The important role of athletics in schools and communities is to serve as motivation not only to perform at a certain standard but also to stay out of trouble.
Coach Jannie van der Merwe who is also a National Level 3 coach runs the I Have Talent Sports Academy that identifies and develops talent in children, and protects young athletes while they are growing.
The academy, established in 2010, has its base in Randburg but following requests to open another branch on the West Rand, they set up at Ruimsig Stadium as well.

“We are proud of what we have achieved, and produce many provincial and national athletes every year. We are grateful for all the success and believe it will be the same at Ruimsig. We offer all the items and have a team of highly qualified and experienced coaches. Ruimsig is currently closed due to the pandemic but the academy is looking forward to welcoming more athletes into their care. We are just waiting for the stadium to open before we get back on track,” said Jannie.
According to Jannie, they provide professional coaching by incorporating the latest international coaching trends and assessments, their focus being on developing speed within the children of South Africa.
“There is no substitute for speed, whether you are competing in a 100m sprint or outrunning your opponent on the sports field, speed will give you that edge to get there first,” said Jannie.
Members of the public who want to obtain more information about the academy are advised to contact Jannie van der Merwe on 082 599 6152.
