Bosmont-based Recycle Drive Bantwana Girls Football Club travelled to Panorama for two fixtures on Saturday and Sunday, March 25 and 26. Saturday’s fixture tested the Regional league squads while Sunday was a run-out for the Rand Central Local Football Association (RCLFA) women’s teams. The Regional and RCLFA tiers are the third and fourth divisions of women’s football followed by the Hollywood Bets Professional League and Sasol Women’s League.

Saturday’s Regional league preseason friendly was a tight affair with chances limited at both ends. The home team had the slightest of edges in the possession stats and the best clear-cut chance of the first half which was miraculously blocked on the line from under the crossbar. It would take a sloppy Bantwana error to decide matters as they gifted Panorama a cheap penalty, Ashanté Mattera converting to seal a 1-0 win.

The RCLFA women’s friendly on Sunday was a more lively affair that leaned decisively in the visitor’s favour as the Recycle Drive Bantwana girls eased to a 5-1 win. Panorama’s U15 girls did get a win for the hosts a little earlier in the day when they played a curtain raiser to the senior fixture, beating Old Parks 3-1.

Keaton le Roux is Panorama’s Regional league head coach and he has assessed everything about his players including their fitness levels, playing experience, conditioning, game intelligence, and nutritional lifestyle.

“These are the fundamentals that can result in optimal performance of the team as a whole when done correctly. The regional league we are in requires a team in sync with this because that is the level we’re competing at now,” stated Le Roux.

The refined approach is designed to produce results but those are not necessarily the priority.

“The number one goal is the development of the girls. My goals must be aligned with the club and the players. We want to build an environment where competitive ladies are attracted to come and play at a club with a developmental and winning mentality. Our goal this season is to build an identity of football that adds positively to the women’s game,” Le Roux added.

The serious business of the upcoming season is around the corner and the Panorama hierarchy will be eagerly anticipating a successful 2023 season.
