The road to provincials continues for West Rand Netball

Hoërskool Florida hosts the Jomo trials for Johannesburg and Mogale netball districts.

The road to Gauteng netball trials is in full swing as the second round of the Johannesburg and Mogale (Jomo) trials took place at Hoƫrskool Florida recently.

The trials began at 14:00 with the U12 to U18 girls participating against the teams from the different Mogale and Johannesburg districts. In the long run, this will determine if they get selected to represent Gauteng. The two districts in the West Rand area that participated were the D2 (Mogale) and D12 (Joburg West).

The trials for the U12s and U13s took place on March 17 while the U14 to 18 girls had their trials on March 18.

The chairperson of Jomo, Tanya Meyer, said that she always looks forward to these trials because you get to see the different styles of play from the girls. ā€œWe are looking for girls who are extraordinary in today’s trials. The level of high performance for Gauteng Schools Netball (GSN) requires players to read the game, know how to intercept, throw strong passes, do a running step, and manage the level of intensity and competitiveness that comes with playing provincially,ā€ she said.

Tanya added by saying that the U12s and U18s from last week Friday had a strong group in terms of the basic requirements to be selected for Gauteng and from today’s perception, the U17s are giving their all. ā€œYou can tell how much effort the girls and their coaches put in during their school training sessions,ā€ Tanya said.

The Gauteng trials are set to take place on April 1 for the U12s and U13s, and the U14-U18s will take place on April 2 at Hoƫrskool Florida. The final trials will be on April 20 where selected teams will represent GSN.
