Crawford’s Chante dominates in the Swimming SA’s Regional Champs

Crawford International learner delivers exceptional results in the SSA Regional Championships.

Crawford International Ruimsig Grade 12 learner Chante Joubert’s aquatic prowess shone brightly in the Swimming South Africa’s (SSA) Regionals Championships Level 3 competition, which took place in March.

She competed in the girls U17–19 category for her club, Crusaders. Chante faced stiff competition from clubs of Botswana, Mozambique, Angola, Zimbabwe, Uganda, and various SA provinces. Chante competed in multiple events over four challenging days showcasing her versatility and skill.

She demonstrated her strength among the top 10 swimmers and qualified for the championships finals in a range of events and placed:

• sixth in the 400m freestyle
• ninth in the 200m backstroke
• eight in the 200m freestyle
• 10th in the 50m backstroke
• 17th in the 100m freestyle (top 20)
• 14th in the 50m freestyle (top 20)

Chante showed consistency as she also dominated at the SA Open Water Nationals, finishing in 46.13 in the ladies’ 3km event, securing an SSA A-qualifying time finish. Her performance ranked her 15th in SA in the women’s U18 category, a commendable achievement at a national level.

She also earned her Central Gauteng colours for representing Central Gauteng Aquatics at nationals. Adding to her accolades, she was selected for Central Gauteng’s 4 x 1.5km relay team, contributing to their eighth-place finish among all the provinces.

Chante’s performance at the Regionals Championships was exceptional, securing top 10 finishes in five out of eight events and qualifying for the finals. Her consistent excellence in the pool highlights her as a rising star in South African swimming, earning her admiration and acclaim in the swimming community.

She is expected to participate in the Central Gauteng Aquatics Winter Short Course Championships in June.
