24 Seven jumps to the top of the mountain at SA Cup

The gymnastics and trampoline team shoots for the stars and wins 40 medals.

The 24 Seven gymnastics and trampoline team brought home a whopping 40 medals and more than 12 trophies across multiple age groups from the recent SA Cup competition held in Gqeberha.

The team showcased their incredible talent, hard work, and dedication, and they dominated the competition with more than 60 entries, proving that they are formidable forces in the world of gymnastics and trampoline.

According to senior coach Jean Claude (JC) Roux, the team prepared four months before the competition, and they competed against some of the best teams in the country, but their team did exceptionally well and left the judges in awe of their agility, skill and strength.

JC says the sport requires discipline, a positive attitude, tight schedules and training, and having the dream for it.

ā€œGymnastics and trampoline are not common in South Africa and are not prioritised enough. We usually look at the childā€™s potential and personality and then turn it into something they can use when competing. This was my best competition as a coach, and Iā€™m very proud of my team,ā€ he said.

He believes they had the potential to participate in the Olympics, but due to their age, they didnā€™t qualify. But they do stand a chance in 2028. JC also competed in the 2023 World Championship in Birmingham, England, and came 28th out of 140 in the senior division, and was awarded his senior Protea colours.

JP Roux and Rico Immelman, who are also part of the team, made the Junior Protea team.

The 24 Seven team has been competing for the past 10 years and has done incredibly well in cementing its place nationally and globally.

Founder and Protea coach of the team, Luitha Roux guides her athletes to the pinnacle of the sport around the country.

She says it is always a nice trip and experience when they travel to competitions and her team always makes her proud.

She says the team’s success is a testament to the countless training and sacrifice put in by the athletes, coaches, supporting staff and parents.
