Poorte looses against Raiders

Roodepoort Rugby Club (Poorte) suffers another loss at home.

Raiders Rugby Club claimed a 77–14 victory against Roodepoort Rugby Club (Poorte) at Hoërskool Bastion on Saturday, May 18.

Raiders successfully claimed their first three points for this season’s league which boosts them to the eighth position on the log, but they still find themselves in the relegation zone in the Castle Lager League.

The match’s first promising attack came in the early minutes of the game, courtesy of Raiders forward, Asithandile Mrubata. The Raiders dominated the match securing more tries than the home team in the first half.

Poorte desperately needed to claim victory from this game to redeem themselves from their unpleasing three-games-in-a-row loss, but things didn’t go as planned.

The home defence was unraveled near the 50th minute with slick handling as the Raiders’ tight five created a chance that was finished by Mrubata, but the theme of the home side scoring freely promptly resumed.

According to Raiders head coach Harold Primo, the players are still finding their feet in the league since they have nearly seven players affected by flu.

“The team has been losing lately but through training and help from our technical team we managed to bring about minor development which paid off today,” he said.

“The guys are not sleeping, they are always pushing so hard to get productive results and we will need to continue securing these results as we did today and the team still believes that there’s still time to go back to our normal position in the log,” he added.

Poorte continues to approach this season on a low tempo claiming unpleasing results from their last three games which puts them in the relegation zone, but coach Willie Wepener believes that the team will be back to its normal standard in no time.
