Learner shows rugby talent

Congratulations are for young rugby player Deandro Jacobs, who recently made a name for himself on the rugby field by being the only player from his school selected to play for the Roodepoort Rugby Club in the Gauteng Lions Youth Rugby tournament.

This Laerskool Florida learner showed immense sporting prowess and dedication and was the only one from his school to make the U11 club team.

The Gauteng Lions Youth Rugby tournament took place at Hoërskool Florida on June 15 and was comprised of all Gauteng rugby clubs from U6 age groups to U18s. In a thrilling display of skill and teamwork, Deandro and his teammates emerged victorious, claiming the trophy and cementing their position as champions in the rugby fraternity.

According to his father, Adriaan Jacobs, he played for all age groups at his school as well as the Roodepoort Rugby Club youth teams, and he is a very effective backline player.
“Deandro has been selected multiple times for his school, not only in rugby but in athletics as well.

“As a parent, I am very proud of his achievements, but as he said out of his own experience, he couldn’t achieve this without Roodepoort Rugby Club as well as Laerskool Florida coaches and teammates. I just want him to keep the qualities he has, stay down to earth, help others, never get bigger than the game, work hard for what he still wants to achieve, believe in himself, his team, coaches, school, and club, and take every opportunity he can,” the doting dad said.

The Lions Youth Rugby Club was an opportunity to give exposure and opportunities to schools after their leagues, and it is mostly prominent in primary schools.
