MMA fighters set to compete at championships
Don't miss the action as Roodepoort's top MMA fighters make impressions at GFC MMAs this weekend.
Seven mixed martial arts (MMA) fighters from the Pandamonium FC in Wilrogate have been selected to participate in the highly anticipated Gauteng Fighting Championships (GFC MMAs) on August 3.
The event is set to take place at the Walter Sisulu Hall in Randburg.
The GFC MMA offers an evening of fast-paced action, including amateur professionals and rising stars from and around Gauteng. Among the fighters stepping into the fighting ring is Daniel Duda, who started MMA fighting at the age of 17, and is known for his powerful striking, and impressive knockout record. Daniel, who trains at the renowned above-mentioned gym, is determined to add another victory to his name as he has also had the honour of representing South Africa on a global level.

“My focus comes from wanting to achieve the best I can in the sport and I know that requires a great deal of work into myself and the art. So even in the hardest moments, I push through,” Daniel said.
Joining him is Iviwe Mphathiswa, who started MMA fighting at the age of 16 after the sport was introduced to him by his technology teacher. Iviwe says that he started competing in 2021 and decided to move to Johannesburg to train under the guidance of coach Dwain Meredith because he wanted to level up his skills.
“Dwain has inspired me to push hard on my dreams and to achieve the best ranking in MMA South Africa,” Iviwe commented.
Thabang Raphahlelo is another local fighter to watch as he has never competed in the MMAs before and is going to make his debut fight on Saturday. He has won a kickboxing fight with a knockout and he is confident that he is going to do well at the GFC MMA. The event will also feature several other fights from fighters like Owami Mngadi, Nqobizitha Msimango and Rigo Ntumba. Allistar Kunene and Kelvin Smit will also be participating in another championship fight on August 8.
The excitement is in the air as Pandamonium FC rallies behind its fighters, each hoping to make their mark. The GFC MMA event this Saturday is set to be an amazing night of combat sports, with heated battles and potential career-defining moments for the athletes involved.
