Honeydew Ladies shine in exciting competition
The match kept the spectators on the edge of their seats with intense play and a thrilling comeback.
The Honeydew Bowling Club recently played host to the Ladies and Men’s Sables 4 Competition, providing spectators with an exceptional display of bowls at the highest standard.
The home team, consisting of Lyn Marnewick, Jeanette Nadel, Amanda Jooste and Lyn Peens, faced off against a formidable opposition comprising Yoli Simmerlink, Nicci Neal, Karen Gerber and Ashleigh Petzer from Leases.
In the match’s early stages, the home team took the lead; their dominance steadily growing. However, bowls, like any sport, are unpredictable. The visiting team soon found their rhythm, making a remarkable comeback. By the 21st end, the scores were tied at 18 apiece, setting the stage for a thrilling finale. Each bowl was met with applause from the excited crowd, captivated by the intensity of the match.
As the game neared its conclusion, Honeydew held eight shots with just four bowls remaining. Yoli attempted to turn the tide by attacking the head, but Lyn Marnewick responded with a precise shot, consolidating Honeydew’s position. The final score of 21–18 in Honeydew’s favour was met with delight from the home supporters.
The spectators gave all eight players a standing ovation for their outstanding performance. Tony Nadel, president of the Honeydew Bowling Club, expressed his pride, saying, “I was astounded by the performance of our ladies, but incredibly proud of them. This was a fantastic display of ladies’ bowls.”
