MMA fighter on his way to world champs
Local MMA Fighter, Iviwe Mphathiswa, is set to represent South Africa at the World Champions.
Iviwe Mphathiswa’s remarkable journey is proof that you can do anything when you put your mind to it.
This young man’s journey in mixed martial arts (MMA) started in high school when his former teacher introduced it to him. Little did he know that it would change his whole life.
He is a member of Pandamonium FC and is currently selected to represent South Africa in the World Championships set to take place in Uzbekistan in Central Asia from November 5 to 10.
Speaking to the Roodepoort Record, Iviwe mentioned that this moment is priceless and is the culmination of countless hours of sweat and dedication.
“I’m the first in my family to do such a rare sport, and throughout my journey, I hope to inspire others as well.
“To me, this sport is more than just grappling and kicking; to me, it represents what a person can do when they are focused on what they want. I am aiming to take this professionally,” says Iviwe.
Iviwe has been performing exceptionally well and has a few accolades under his name.
He is currently the Barebones MMA Champion that took place in Cape Town, and he also holds a first runner-up position nationally.
“I started working with my coach, Dwain Meredith, about a year ago, and he inspired me to push hard on my dreams, and I’m finally going to be the best-ranking MMA fighter in SA.
“The goal in any tournament-style event is to get through the first few days with as little damage as possible. Our focus will be on doing the maximum damage while taking as little risk as possible,” Dwain says.
However, to turn his professional dreams into reality, Iviwe requires financial assistance which will be instrumental in helping him achieve his aspirations.
