Gold medal glory for 24 Seven gymnastics team
The 24 Seven Gymnastics and Trampoline team put on a stellar performance at the Gym Games competition in Cape Town.
The 24 Seven Gymnastics and Trampoline team made a stellar impression at the recent annual gym games held in Cape Town.
The event drew an impressive 3 347 participants from across the country, competing in eight diverse disciplines.
Forty talented gymnasts represented the club with distinction, participating in trampoline and acrobatics events.
According to coach Luitha Roux, the team’s performance was nothing short of phenomenal.
“We were the largest trampoline team at the competition, and our athletes dominated every category,” Luitha proudly stated. “Notably, our synchro team members each took home a well-deserved gold medal.”
Luitha also highlighted that her team boasted the highest level of trampoline competitors at the event.
“The Gym Games was our highest-level competition for 24 Seven this year, as international events were postponed due to the Olympics. Despite this, the team’s outstanding performance demonstrated our readiness for future international and local competitions.”
The event was made even more special with a surprise visit from Elizabeth Cameron Smith, affectionately known as ‘The Mother of Gymnastics’ in South Africa. Elizabeth, who is also the previous president of Gym South Africa, has dedicated 52 years to growing the sport.
Under her leadership, gymnastics in South Africa expanded from four to nine disciplines. Elizabeth’s tireless advocacy ensured equal opportunities for women and girls, empowering them to reach new heights.
“Gym Games Acro 2024 was an incredible experience, and we were honoured to have Elizabeth join us,” Luitha said. “Her legacy inspires our athletes to strive for excellence.”
