Mia dances her way to a top spot

Local dancer Mia Richards is ready to take on the world as she represents SA in a prestigious dance competition.

Rising dance star Mia Richards (11) has fearlessly danced to a top spot at the DanceSport School League (DSSL) in October in Cape Town.

DSSL is a non-profit organisation that provides a platform for all learners from schools to participate in dance as a sport. The Grade Five learner from Agape Christian School competed in the Hip Hop dance category, representing Gauteng West and placed for both her solo and group performances.

Speaking to the Roodepoort Northsider, Mia explained that last year she never placed in the previous competition, but she worked extremely hard to make sure she placed in the top three, and to her surprise, she secured first place for both her performances.

“I was very anxious about performing again because, as a dancer, you are telling a story with your performance. I am so excited for the next journey in my dance career,” Mia adds.

Mia is one of the many dancers selected to represent South Africa in the United Kingdom.
