Barbie bowls at Ladies Day
Witpoortjie Bowling Cub hosted their annual Ladies Day aimed at raising funds for the club.
The Witpoortjie Bowling Club was transformed into a life-sized Barbie dollhouse for the club’s annual Ladies Day.
About 96 women from different clubs, including Randburg, Linden, Witpoortjie, Maraisburg, Randfontein, Noordheuwel, Discovery and Leases were dolled up in Barbie-inspired outfits and were all ready for a good day of bowls.
Many years ago, women had less access to the greens on any Saturday and Ladies’ Day is a celebration of femininity and sacrifice. It is also about bowling clubs helping each other to raise funds.
On this day, lunch is usually served by gentlemen of that respective club and there are usually great prizes up for grabs for the winning teams or individuals.
After an exciting game of 18 ends in the Fours format, prizes were awarded in various categories. The winning team with the best team spirit, and best dressed won R800 and there were lucky draws with prizes including pamper, meat and alcohol hampers.
Each participant received a complimentary gift and a pink shooter, courtesy of Witpoortjie Bowling Club.
“The overall comments received by the women was that it was fantastic and it was best in the district,” says Tish Olwagen, media Liaison of the Witpoortjie Bowling Club.
“The Ladies Day is one of our biggest fundraisers throughout the year. The proceeds go directly back into the club for maintenance of our greens and clubhouse. We are grateful for everyone who graced us with their presence on this day. We wouldn’t be able to do it if we didn’t support each other as clubs,” Tish concludes.
