DK destined for greatness

Panorama Ladies football star is set to represent the U17 National Team against Gabon.

The new year is blessed with new goals for aspiring football star Dakalo “DK” Mafumo as she is selected to represent the U17 National Women’s Team in the World Cup qualifiers against Gabon at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria on January 11.

The talented 14-year-old who currently plays for the Panorama Ladies football team was recently called to represent the national team in the Council of Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) Tournament in December.

This was a huge moment for her being one of the youngest players to be selected. The Roodepoort Northsider spoke to Panorama Ladies coach Greg Green who shared DK’s wonderful journey as a young player.

“DK has always been a quiet and reserved individual but when she gets on the field, you see a completely different person because she shows you exactly who she is.

“When she first started at the club, I knew from the moment she volunteered to play a different position, stepping out of her comfort zone that she was going places. This is a big moment for her because the first time she was selected was considered a trial to see if she could handle the pressure. Fortunately, they called her again which means that she was a star on the field,” Greg said.

As DK ventures into her journey of one day playing for Banyana Banyana, she is surrounded by her family, friends and the massive support she receives from her teammates and coaches at Panorama Football Club.
