Parkrun pushes the limits
The Roodepoort parkrun proved its popularity once again this past Saturday.
The weekly parkrun at the Len Rutter Park was, as usual, the best attended event in Roodepoort with no less than 642 runners taking part on Saturday, January 25, making this their best turnout since May 2023 and the second best since July 2020.
The parkrun saw more than 50 first-timers taking part, and nearly as many personal best times clocked.

Milestones included Mervyn Collins, who completed his 250th parkrun, Faried Harmen who finished his 200th, and Munyaradzi Hluyo, who finished in first place in his 150th run.

Andrè Atkins, Tracy Rae and Clare Tomaselli did their 100th runs, and Rofiwa Lesley Mudau, Pbakeng Morake, and Elnet Ndebele each complete their 50th.

The race was taken by Munyaradzi Hluyo in a time of 20:50 with first-timer Panashe Phiri hot on his heels with 21:00 and Florida Lake Canoe Club runner David Brown with 21:10 making up the top three.

Peter Wilfred Loudon Brown took fourth place in 21:17, and Moeketsi Tsoeliane rounded off the top five in 22:.01.
Eva Carson was the first woman to cross the finish line in a time of 24:24, ensuring her a comfortable 10th place.
