Local swimmers take a plunge in the Midmar
Logwood Village residents are excited to compete in the aQuelle Midmar mile in KZN.
The aQuelle Midmar Mile is an event for individuals of all ages and abilities who compete and swim in South Africa’s largest open-water swimming event.
The race includes many categories, including individual, company, schools, clubs, teams, disabled, families, Ironman, and biathlon. This year, the residents of Logwood Village, a residence for adults with disabilities, will be competing in the Midmar race weekend at Howick, KwaZulu-Natal, from February 8 to 9 in the disabled swimmers category.
Logwood Sports Co-ordinator Elaine Learmonth expressed her excitement as she will be joining the other swimmers in this annual event.
“The swimmers train at least twice a week in a 25m pool, with an additional 2km walk a day just to get their blood flowing and keep them active. Our swimmers are very excited to take part in this year’s Midmar Mile and equally hope to achieve a better swim time than the previous year.
“The swimmers also compete in a swim gala once a month against other teams to keep their competitive spirits up and challenge their skills,” Elaine adds.
With over 12 000 competing over the course of the weekend, the Logwood swimmers are aiming for gold.
