Milestones galore at parkrun

Roodepoort parkrunners achieve exceptional milestones.

Every Saturday is a milestone day at the Roodepoort parkrun and runners are always honoured on the honours board. Some celebrate 50 to 300 runs completed and others celebrate milestones of time – a new personal best, a sub-20 minute finish, or a first-ever finish under 30
minutes.

On Saturday, February 1, Liz Carson completed her 300th milestone and shared with the Roodepoort Record that she has been running since 2017.

Liz was greeted with cheers and applause as she crossed the finish line, and she hosted a celebration for this milestone.

“Parkrun has changed my life and I would encourage others to come every Saturday to push their limits,” she said. Two other participants, Amy Burger and Luke Kelly, celebrated their 50th milestone and they both shared how their fitness levels have improved.

The event was attended by 612 runners and saw more than 40 first time runners. Thabo Motswai was the first male finisher with a time of 19:08 and Maryna Bijker was the first female finisher with a time of 22:48.

As the participants gathered to celebrate, the atmosphere was electric. There were hugs, high-fives, and congratulatory messages all round. It was clear that parkrun was more than just a weekly run – it is a community; a family.
