Gold medal for karateka

Morgan Briggs of Badgers Karate Academy emerges victorious at the Gauteng trials.

Following her stellar performance at the Gauteng trials in Pretoria, Morgan Briggs has cemented her position as a force to be reckoned with in the karate world. Her impressive skills and unwavering determination in Kumite left judges, coaches and fellow competitors in awe as she knocked her opponent with an impressive 18 points.

What’s even more remarkable about Morgan’s achievement is that she competed in the all-stars category, facing off against a black belt opponent while holding a blue belt herself. Her triumph has earned her a spot at the national championships, set to take place in Durban on March 8. If she wins, Morgan will be awarded the prestigious Protea colours or Karate South Africa colours.

Morgan’s Sensei at Badgers Karate Academy, Danika Stevens, couldn’t be prouder of her student’s achievement.

“We put in a lot of hard work, both physically and mentally,” she explained. “Morgan was dedicated to her training, even during the holiday season in December. I provided her with a programme, and she took it from there.”

Morgan herself is thrilled with the outcome and said, “I’m happy with the results, and I’m excited for the next challenge.”

With her talent, perseverance, and passion for karate, Morgan Briggs is undoubtedly a name to watch in the world of karate.
