Valentine’s themed parkrun

Walkers and runners wear red or pink at Roodepoort parkrun.

On Saturday, February 15, the Roodepoort parkrun celebrated its 593rd event in style, with a Valentine’s Day-themed run that saw 580 walkers and runners take part.

The event was a huge success, with participants showing up in their best red and pink gear to tackle the 5k route. Many people wore Valentine’s Day-themed accessories.

Milestones included Eva Carson, who completed her 300th parkrun, and Christopher Meintjies with 450. In the 25 parkruns category were Punie Scokdeo, Tadeus Madungwe, Danisile Mthombeni, Cythnia Jacobs, and Paige Bason.

Carina Wilson completed her 150th volunteer milestone alongside Debbie Strydom with 50 volunteer stints.

The race was taken by Thabo Motswai with an impressive 19:49, closely followed by Ayokuhle Babalola who pushed himself to the finish line in a time of 20:41.

Maryna Bijker was once again the first woman to cross the finish line at 23:45 ensuring her 11th place overall.
