Parkrun pulls the crowds
Hundreds of runners descend on Len Rutter Park for the weekly parkrun.
Nearly 600 people, among which more than 50 first-timers, turned up for the parkrun on Saturday, February 22, once again proving that the Roodepoort parkrun is one of the most popular events around.

As always, a whole host of participants celebrated the coveted parkrun milestones including David Brown, who completed his 300th run, René van Staden (200), Winnie de Winnaar and Lydia Jansen van Rensburg, who each competed in their 100th parkruns.

Stefany Arumugam, Cynthia Jacobs, Alanicka Lotriet, Carla Schutzler, and Sunita Coetsee each finished their 25th runs.

The race was won by Thato Motsaapheko in a sterling time of 20:02. He was followed by Panashe Phiri, who achieved a personal best of 20:58 to take second place.

Lufuno Mokgithu finished in third place in a time of 21:02, and Munyaradzi Hluyo took fourth place in 21:36.

David Brown rounded off the top five in a time of 22:10.
In the women’s race, Rotundwa Mokgothu, in her 21st parkrun took first place, finishing in 24:21, followed by Eva Carson who managed it in 24:31.

Winnie de Winnaar was the third woman across the finish line in a time of 27:20.

The first four-footed runner across the finish line was Phoebe, accompanied by her owner Edmund du Toit.
With this week’s parkrun falling on the 22nd of the month, all the volunteers and a fair number of runners showed up in colourful tutus, adding to the fun of the event.
