The Phiri brothers continue to establish themselves as rising stars in South African motorsport
The Phiri brothers, Oratilwe and Amohelang, both learners at Crawford International Ruimsig, have stepped up to bigger bikes and tougher competition in the 2025 racing season, building on their strong performances from last year.

Last year, Amohelang competed in the NSF100 class, where he delivered impressive performances. Now, in 2025, he has moved up to the 150 Junior Cup in the South African Short Circuit Series (SASCS).

Although he recently acquired his own bike, he was unable to use it in the first two races of the year and had to compete on his coach Themba Khumalo’s training bike.
“Despite this challenge, he finished 6th in the first race at Vereeniging Kart Circuit and 7th in the second race at FK Kart Circuit in Benoni, placing him seventh in the championship standings. He looks forward to his next race on May 31st in Vereeniging, where he will finally compete on his own bike,” explains his father Thabiso Phiri.
Oratilwe had an outstanding 2024 season, winning the Sub 500 Championship despite facing tough challenges, including a crash during the final race weekend. This year, he has moved up to the SBK600 class, racing under Lumi Racing in the Motorcycle Racing Series of South Africa (MRSSA) under the South African Endurance Series (SAES).

Now riding a Yamaha R6, he has already made his mark in the new class as he secured victory in the first race of the season at Zwartkops Raceway in Centurion, putting him at the top of the championship standings. He now prepares for Round Two at Aldo Scribante Circuit in Gqeberha on April 5 and the brothers are eager to push even further in the races ahead.
