Roodies roar to victory: All teams secure a win
Their U17, U14, and 1st rugby team deliver impressive wins in Golden Lions League.
Hoërskool Roodepoort’s (Roodies) U17 team emerged victorious in an easy encounter against Hoërskool Wonderfontein (Wonnies), securing a well-deserved 43–19 win that had spectators on the edge of their seats until the final whistle blew.

The match took place on Friday, May 10, on Roodepoort’s rugby fields, and from the onset, Roodies U17 set the record straight, dominating the match with a thrilling first try scored by Inam Rasmen. The try started with a clever pot move that freed up space, followed by a quick ball from the ruck to the 10, who expertly played hands through to the try line, showcasing the team’s impressive attacking flair.

The second half of the game was just as bad for Wonnies as Roodies scored more tries back to back.

According to assistant and backline coach Ndumiso Nhlapo, this match was part of Golden Lions League group 5A, and there were some weaknesses that the boys had.
“There was a delay in getting into the game, and the sudden drop and increase of motivation within the team. Our opponents were playing unlawfully, resulting in foul play against us. However, overall, the boys played well for each other. They had the same goal and vision because we don’t play as individuals but as a family,” he said.
Lesedi Nelson was named the man of the match, and according to Ndumiso, he stood out because of his exceptional skills in reading the game, putting his teammates into gaps, and his kicking game was on point.

On the other hand, Roodies teams delivered impressive performances across the board, with the U14 team dominating 41–10 and the first team securing a nail-biting 22–21 victory.
