Parkrun gains momentum after cold weeks

Almost 400 runners and walkers joined in on Saturday, July 19.

The Roodepoort parkrun, which takes place every Saturday at 08:00 at Len Rutter Park, saw a welcome surge in participation this past weekend, with 399 runners and walkers braving the 5km course. This was a significant increase from the past three weeks, which had seen lower numbers due to the extreme cold.

Event number 616 was made possible by the tireless efforts of volunteers, who worked behind the scenes to ensure everything ran smoothly. And it paid off, with a fantastic turnout on a crisp winter morning.

Kion Venter took top honours among the men, crossing the finish line in a personal best time of 19:00. Stephan Koch from Born 2 Run Athletics Club came in second with a time of 19:19, followed closely by Munyaradzi Hluyo in 20:52. It is also important to note that the top 35 finishers were males only.
