Young hip-hop star brings home gold

In 2023, the team didn't bring home any medals, but this year they collected all of them.

Kiki Moabi, a Grade Five learner at Nova Pioneer Ruimsig, has made her family and school proud as she represented South Africa at the Dance World Cup.

The competition was held in Burgos, Spain. She performed group and solo routines, where she managed to bring home two gold medals and one silver medal from the competition.

Even though Kiki and her family travelled separately from the rest of the crew, arriving in Spain just before the competition, she described her journey as exciting and unforgettable.

“I was just at home chilling when my mom told me we’re going to Spain. I was so happy and ready to go,” she said.

For the dance competition, Kiki said that dancers were regrouped and selected based on skill for the international competition. The group then practised to be well prepared for the journey ahead.

“Practising was intense but fun, and even though I was in a new group, everything went well,” Kiki explains.

Following the competition, Kiki and her family visited a theme park and water park in Madrid.

“I even went on the Anaconda ride, which was super scary but fun,” she said.

Kiki returned to school ready to maintain her good academic success.

“I am managing my schoolwork and dance very well,” she said. Looking to the future, Kiki is preparing for local competitions, including competitions which she will participate in in September and October.
