Young rider claims 3rd position at Trailseeker

He had a plan and stuck to it, even when faced with challenges.

Rebaona Matshwane proved himself a rising star in the world of mountain biking by securing third place at the Van Gaalen Ford Trailseeker in the North West on July 26.

Rebaona set out with the intention of getting a strong start.

“I was unfortunate, though, and had a crash on the descent, but I was still able to make up a few places,” he said.

Despite the early setback, his training and determination paid off as he tackled the demanding, rocky climbs.

“They were the most challenging parts of the course. I had to reflect on the training I had done leading up to the race and channel my energy to overcome them,” he emphasised.

“I had to be disciplined with my training, ensuring I gave myself the necessary recovery time in between,” Rebaona added. This preparation helped him push through the toughest moments and maintain his momentum.

Near the end of the race, he had another accident, but quickly recovered and pushed on.

“On the last descent, I hit a rock and lost control, but I was able to slow down, and I didn’t have a bad crash. I just made sure to get up quickly and push as hard as possible,” he said.

The third-place finish has boosted Rebaona’s confidence and motivated him to continue training and striving for success.

“I would suggest that they train consistently and make sure they also let their bodies recover after hard days. They shouldn’t put themselves under too much pressure to perform – just go and enjoy themselves,” said Rebaona, offering advice to young riders hoping to compete in similar races.
