Kickboxing stars win big at world champs

Their achievements will inspire other young fighters and contribute to the growth of kickboxing in South Africa.

Two fighters from Triple Threat Dojo, Lian “Bubu” van Zyl and Rachelle “Rambo” Seyfferdt, have made South Africa proud by bringing home a collection of medals from the World Kickboxing Organisation Championships. The championships were held in Barnsley, England, from August 1–3 and featured top kickboxers from around the world.

The pair returned home with two gold, five silver, and one bronze medal. Lian won a gold medal in the full-contact division with a knockout victory, while Rachelle claimed gold in her low-kick light fight after dominating her rival.

The championships require fighters to be in top physical condition and to have mastered different techniques, including full-contact and low-kick fighting styles.

According to coach Sensei Wade Rendall, Lian’s performance was particularly impressive, as he won a gold medal in the full-contact division and earned a silver medal in the K1 division against a seasoned opponent. Unfortunately, an injury forced him to withdraw from the remaining categories. Rachelle also had a standout performance, securing four silver medals in addition to her gold medal.

Wade was appointed head coach of the tournament and was extremely proud of both fighters and their commitment on the international stage. The victories have contributed to Triple Threat Dojo’s reputation as one of the leading kickboxing clubs in the country.

With these wins, the club now boasts five world champions in its ranks.
