Shunkenkan Ju-Jitsu makes waves at invitational tournament

Fighters from Shunkenkan Ju-Jitsu made their presence known during the recent TSKKIA International Invitational tournament.

Fighters from Shunkenkan Ju-Jitsu took to the road on August 3 to take part in the Traditional Styles Known Knowledge In Action (TSKKIA) International Invitational held in Rustenburg.

According to Sensei Adrian van de Werken, the TSKKIA is a martial arts federation that caters for all fighting styles.

Ju-Jitsu, an ancient traditional Japanese discipline, is best known for being the fighting style of the famous Samurai.

“We had 12 fighters, with ages ranging from eight to 44, taking part on the day,” he says.

“The competition consisted of full contact kumite fighting as well as grappling.

“Our fighters competed in various divisions and weight classes against a number of South African clubs and one international club hailing from Ireland, and returned victorious with 22 medals in hand. This is a momentous achievement.”

In addition, he shares that Shunkenkan Ju-Jitsu received high praises from the other clubs involved on the day for their excellent skill, discipline and humility.

“This made an awesome day even more special,” he says. “We even received a standing invitation from the Irish team to compete in Ireland.

“I am extremely proud of every Shunkenkan Ju-Jitsu fighter. They once again showed that with hard work and dedication, you can achieve anything.”

Sensei Adrian called on anyone interested in learning more about Ju-Jitsu to contact him.

“Ju-Jitsu in all its forms is still the best self-defence system available. You are never too old to start training.”
