Golfers strike for a good cause

Golfers tee off for a cause: Irish Rock Women’s Club raises funds to support local children and survivors of gender-based violence.

The Irish Rock Women’s Club brought golfers, sponsors, and supporters together for its Annual Charity Golf Tournament on Tuesday, August 26, at Eagle Canyon Golf Estate. The event combined sport, networking, and fundraising for a good cause.

According to club founder Theresa Fouché, the tournament supports two local charities: the Epic Foundation, which aids victims and survivors of gender-based violence, and the Fred & Martie Soup Kitchen, which provides meals, access to a small library, and outdoor play facilities for children from vulnerable families.

The day began with a shotgun start at midday, with teams competing in a four-ball alliance format. Participants enjoyed a mix of serious competition and light-hearted fun under clear skies. Activities such as a wheelbarrow raffle and “Beat the Pro” added extra excitement.

Each four-ball entry included goodie bags with self-care essentials such as shampoo, toothbrushes, toothpaste, and facecloths for the families.

“We understand that a lot goes on inside the head of the victims after the abuse, hence we decided to provide these goodie bags so they can shower and keep themselves clean. To access the goodie bags, the victims or survivors need to have a case number so that we avoid corruption in the disbursement of the bags,” said Theresa.

After the competition, participants attended a dinner and prize-giving ceremony, where awards were handed out for categories such as closest to the pin and top-performing teams. While the players showcased their skills on the course, the real success of the day lay in the funds raised, which will go directly to the two charities.

Theresa added that the club also donates 10% of its monthly profits to these organisations to help sustain their work. She credited the sponsors for their support in making the event a success. The day concluded with satisfied golfers proud of the role they had played in making a difference in the lives of those in need.
