Golfers putt to help local school raise funds
The ball didn't land in the hole, but the day still scored big for the school.
The golf course at Ruimsig Country Club was filled with joy and energy as Weltevreden Park Primary School (WPPS) held its annual golf day on Thursday, September 4.
The event was a success, drawing 60 players for a day of sport, networking, and fundraising, with teams standing a chance to win a R100 000 hole-in-one cash prize that was sponsored by Indwe Risk Services.
Monique Melck, the chairperson of the Parent-Faculty Association, said that the school was proud to see the fundraiser growing each year.

“We continue in the positive direction to reach the goals we set to be bigger and better than our last event. Each year is different, and so we just buckle down and do the best that we can,” she said.

While no one won the hole-in-one prize, players enjoyed the excitement as they approached the 17th hole.

“We may not have achieved a hole-in-one this year,” Monique said, “but the amount of memories made will last a lifetime. We do, however, look forward to future partnerships.”
The funds raised will go towards school maintenance as well as major projects, including more advanced sporting equipment.

“We thrive on growth at WPPS, and all proceeds raised will go not only to the school’s maintenance of the grounds but also to major projects and goals we hope to achieve in the short term,” she explained.
The day ran smoothly with no major challenges as golfers played from hole to hole at the golf course.

“It is so heart-warming to see people attend an event for such a good cause in such high spirits and more than happy to support the fundraiser. Each attendee was there rooting for WPPS all the way, and for that, we are truly grateful.”
Event sponsors contributed to the day’s success by offering mini-games, competitions, and spot prizes at various holes.
“Having a prize no doubt increases excitement around any golf day, but in addition, all our hole sponsors contributed in more ways than one. They offered mini-games, competitions, and hampers to be won, not to mention true excitement and support for WPPS.”
Looking ahead, the school hopes to grow the event even further.
“There is always a plan to be bigger and better than your last event,” Monique said.
“While we celebrate the achievements, we note down the finer details of what we can do next year to take that step even closer to the stars.”
