KJK Judo Club athletes perform well at African Championships

The judoka brought home a haul of medals and pride to their club.

Three talented judoka from KJK Judo Club participated in the African Championships Kata held in Mauritius.

The competition, held on September 4 to 8, brought together top athletes from several countries, including Madagascar.

Reece-Hunter Erasmus, Shalyn van den Heever, and Neil Bruwer represented South Africa, competing in various categories. Reece and Shalyn won a gold medal for their performance in the Katame no Kata, while Reece and Neil earned a silver medal for their Nage no Kata. These results come after their strong showing at the South African Nationals.

Reece said they are proud of their hard work and determination.

“I think we performed our best in the Kata.”

For Reece, this was his second time competing at an international tournament, while Neil and Shalyn competed internationally for the first time.

Head coach Katja Bruwer expressed her pride in the team’s efforts, saying they had all worked hard and made sacrifices to reach this level. She also thanked the sponsors, parents, supporters, and the Doryoku Judo Academy for their ongoing support.

The athletes’ performances at the championships reflect their dedication and the progress of the KJK Judo Club.
