Sixteen runners braved the downpour at Pirates 10km.
Despite a steady downpour, 16 members of the Roodepoort Athletics Club ran the Pirates 10km race held on November 16, in Greenside.
Known as Joburg’s Fastest 10k, the race, which attracted more than 2 000 participants, wound its way through the leafy suburbs of Parkview, Westcliff and Greenside, offering runners a picturesque backdrop that was only enhanced by the fresh, rain-filled air.

In the Roodies men’s division, Clinton Kruis led the pack, crossing the finish line in an impressive 37:02. He was followed by Wiseman Managu, who clocked 51:12, and Johan Breydenbach, finishing in 55:59.

The women’s division saw Roodepoort Record editor Adele Bloem claim top honours with a strong performance of 1:02:41. Close behind, Hannetjie Venter, Margaret Stewart all finished within the same bracket, each recording 1:14:48.
Club chairperson Conrad de Buys praised the runners, saying, “I am extremely proud of every athlete who stepped onto that wet course. Their endurance and spirit in the rain show the true heart of Roodepoort Athletics.”
