Young soccer players shine at schools tournament
The day was a memorable celebration of youth soccer and sportsmanship, with many schools travelling long distances to compete.

The sports grounds at The King’s School West Rand (TKSWR) were transformed into a hub of sporting excitement on Saturday, June 6, as the school hosted the South African Christian Schools Soccer Association (SACCSA) Junior Six-a-Side championship.

The tournament saw 46 teams from the eight SACCSA regions and Botswana coming together for a day of competitive football. Young players battled for top honours across the various divisions of the competitions, which were the Boys U9, U11, and U13, and the Girls U13 teams.
Players impressed the match officials with their soccer skills throughout the day, playing with determination and teamwork while parents and supporters cheered them on from the sidelines.

The championship not only showcased emerging football talent but also highlighted the spirit of togetherness that school sport promotes.
Garth Cruz, TKSWR head of sport, expressed his appreciation to everyone who contributed to the success of the championship.
He also acknowledged the efforts of the officials who worked tirelessly to ensure the tournament ran smoothly.
“We thank all the officials who were responsible for making this a very successful tournament. These officials really worked hard,” Cruz expressed.
Cruz reserved special praise for the match officials, whose professionalism helped maintain the high standard of the competition.
“A special word of appreciation to Zachary Zwart, the tournament referee and his two assistants, who kept a tight rein on proceedings and helped to lift the standard of the tournament,” he added.
On the field, teams produced several standout performances. West Rand from the G7 region emerged victorious in the boys U9 division, finishing ahead of Westville from KZN, Robin Hills from G7 and Rabboni from Magaliesburg.
