Panorama runners complete Two Oceans

The race tested more than just fitness, as runners started with high energy and had to battle exhaustion to reach the finish line.

Runners from Panorama Running Club were among the thousands of athletes who participated in this past weekend’s Two Oceans Marathon in Cape Town.

The race is famous for its scenic route and challenging distance, with participants coming from all around South Africa and beyond for the 56km ultramarathon on Saturday, April 11, and the half-marathon on Sunday, April 12.

For Panorama runner Dumisani Bosoga, the race became more than just a test of endurance.

“It has left a remarkable mark on my life. It was a life-changing moment, especially for my running,” he said.

He recalled how the opening stages of the race felt manageable, with excitement carrying runners forward.

“In the beginning, the race was easy. Spirits were high, and everyone was looking up to the finish,” Bosoga said.

But as the race progressed, the challenge became more real.

“Once we reached halfway, I started to think about how I would get to the finish line,” he said, adding that at that point, he found strength in thinking about his family.

“I thought of my kids waiting for me at the finish line, and that gave me new energy,” he said. Despite the physical strain, he said the conditions and the atmosphere along the route helped him push through by motivating him to push even harder.

After conquering the demanding Constantia Hill, one of the most challenging parts of the route, the finish line finally felt within reach.

“I ran to the finish with a smile, which is a moment I will always cherish,” he said. Looking back, Bosoga believes the race lives up to its reputation, noting it as the world’s most beautiful marathon.

The Two Oceans Marathon remains one of South Africa’s most celebrated road running events, known not only for its difficulty but also for the experience it offers runners along the way.
