Boxers raise strike at Federal 1 tournament
The spirit of competition filled Ruimsig Stadium as boxers made their mark at the Federal 1 competition.
Professional boxing returned to Ruimsig Stadium as Team Dida Promotions hosted the inaugural Federal 1 fight on August 29.
The event featured eight live professional bouts, drawing fight enthusiasts from across the West Rand alongside boxers and corners from Gauteng and the North West.
With the first bell ringing at 17:00, spectators were treated to a packed card spanning multiple weight divisions, from junior lightweight to heavyweight.

The headliner delivered six rounds of action as junior middleweights William Bankisi and Morgan Hunter faced off.

Federal 1 was designed to re-establish regular professional boxing in Roodepoort and provide local prospects an accessible platform to build their records close to home.
Speaking on the impact of local fight nights, Boxing South Africa’s communications and media liaison Officer Tshegofatso Thobedi emphasised the role these events play in regional sports development:
“Initiatives like this play an important role in creating opportunities for developing boxers and allowing emerging boxers to gain experience and establish themselves in the professional ranks,” said Thobedi.
“For Boxing South Africa, the continued rise of new talent, alongside the emergence of new promoters entering the sport, is a positive sign of growth and highlights the depth and potential of SA boxing.”
Following the turnout and support for Federal 1, organisers and Boxing South Africa are looking to make Ruimsig Stadium a recurring home for professional fight nights, with a follow-up tournament targeted for late November.
