Arthur Matthews claims JTT tournament

Arthur Matthews U13 soccer team wins JTT Tournament, taking the title from Silverfields Primary.

Arthur Matthews Primary School’s U13 soccer team emerged victorious at the highly contested JTT Tournament, outshining 22 primary schools from across the West Rand.

The tournament finals, held at The King’s School West Rand, on March 6 and 7, saw schools bringing their A game to secure a spot in the finals.

The semi-finals were a nail-biter, with Arthur Matthews facing off against The King’s School West Rand in an intense match that ended in a penalty shootout.

After several rounds, the match went into sudden death, where Arthur Matthews scored the decisive penalty to book their place in the final.

In the finals, Arthur Matthews faced last year’s champions, Silverfields Primary School, and secured a well-deserved 1–0 win, claiming the tournament title.

“We’ve been participating in this tournament for four years, and winning has been our goal and vision for the last year,” said coach Thamsanqa Khoza.

“Last year, I took the U12 team to give them an experience of this tournament, and it paid off this year.

“I’m very proud of the boys, and we’re grateful for the support from the school, including the principal and senior management team,” he added.
