RLT celebrates decades of local theatre

A front-row seat to chaos, laughter and unexpected moments.

For 75 years, Roodepoort Little Theatre Productions (RLT) has brought the local community together through theatre and plans to celebrate the milestone in style.

RLT has been associated with the Roodepoort Theatre for 45 years. As part of the celebrations, the group will stage Play On!, a comedy offering a humorous look at the unpredictable world of amateur theatre.

The play follows a group of actors preparing a murder mystery production, Murder Most Foul. Rehearsals soon descend into chaos, with mishaps on and off stage adding to the comedy.

Known for its fast-paced humour and confusion, Play On! reflects the behind-the-scenes challenges many performers face, while offering audiences a light-hearted experience.

The cast includes Oriela van der Walt, Sylvia Nikolaoy, Josie Pelzer, Neil Wilson, Paul Violet, Candy O, Anita Herbst, Ella Sidhoo and Graham Shirley. Stage direction is by Van der Walt, with technical management by Nikki Forbes.

The production also highlights the role community theatre continues to play in bringing people together and showcasing local talent. Performances will take place at the Roodepoort Theatre Basement in Florida Park on April 10 and 11. Tickets cost R100, while students and pensioners pay R80. Block bookings for groups of 10 or more are available at R70 per person.
