Cancer awareness event promotes early detection and support
Warriors with a Purpose hosted a vibrant cancer awareness event aimed at empowering patients, survivors and their families.
Early detection, patient empowerment and support were key themes at a cancer awareness cultural village event held at a high school in Ridgeway in March.
The event, organised by Roodepoort-based organisation Warriors with a Purpose, drew cancer survivors, healthcare professionals, caregivers and community members. Attendees gathered to raise awareness, restore hope and promote unity.
Warriors with a Purpose is a patient-led advocacy organisation focused on cancer awareness, education, patient navigation and psychosocial support. It aims to empower individuals and communities through knowledge, lived experience and collaborative action.

Founder Renee Singh, a breast cancer survivor who has recently been diagnosed with invasive pleomorphic lobular carcinoma, said the event went beyond awareness.
“It was about connection, education and restoration,” she said.
Attendees had access to cancer screening services conducted by qualified medical professionals, highlighting the importance of early detection and preventative care.

Informational sessions and wellness activations focused on holistic healing, psychosocial support and patient empowerment.
The survivors’ cultural village created a safe and empowering space for participants to share their experiences, celebrate resilience and support others navigating their journeys.
“We are committed to ensuring that every patient feels seen, heard and supported throughout their journey,” Singh added.
