Community gets excited for Saxonwold Primary Spring Walk fundraiser
SAXONWOLD – Young and old came out in support of the Saxonwold Primary Spring Walk on 1 September.
Parents, schoolchildren, alumni and friends of the school gathered together on a sunny spring day morning for the annual Saxonwold Primary Fun Walk and Market Day.
About 800 people walked to raise funds for the school to upgrade their media centre and library.
One of the event organisers, Celeste Haupt said, “Everything sold at the market was made by the children with the assistance of parents and teachers.”
Haupt explained that the annual flagship fundraiser has been going for many years. “This is the first time we have joined forces with The Wold [Saxonwold Pre-School]. We are so thankful for the support of parents and sponsors who have made this day a success.”
Principal Marion Wheater said the school has been hosting this day for the past 25 years since she has been at the school. “It’s a fantastic way to celebrate spring, health and wellness. This event has grown over the years as the school has grown and transformed.”
She explained that the funds raised will go toward the purchasing of new books for the library, furnishings and 50 new chrome books for the children. “We want our new media centre to be a home away from home for the kids, many of whom stay in the aftercare during the afternoons.
“I want it to be a place where children can go and chill, relax, charge their phones and research for projects.”
