Fenton is one of 24 girls from around the world who will be raising various issues through the G(irls)20 initiative in August, a shadow conference to the G20 summit.
The girls will discuss economic empowerment for women in their home countries as a tool to achieve domestic and international economic growth, among other topics.
Following an application and an interview with G(irls)20 CEO, Farah Mohamed, Fenton was announced on International Women’s Day as the South African representative at the summit, “It felt surreal, to finally be able to voice what I think about African women empowerment on a global stage. I was so overwhelmed,” she said.
The matriculant encouraged young people to make use of platforms that allowed them to voice their concerns, “If we start initiating conversation about issues affecting young people, the youth will be more influential to policy makers,” she said.
Last year she raised about R137 000 for child protection organisation, Home for Hope.
This was achieved through the Rape is A.P.E campaign, which raised awareness about the country’s culture of sexual violence.
The campaign is being rolled out in surrounding schools with the intention of going nationally.
Fenton has also been involved in a number of other activities including writing for the Children’s News Agency. She has received the Duke of Edinburgh Award for her volunteer accomplishments and won Best Presentation at the 2013 Model United Nations Debate.
