Rosebank rotarians help grade 12s
ROSEBANK - The Rotary Club of Johannesburg hosted Grade 12 pupils for a careers day at Holy Family College.
About 200 pupils from various schools in the area including Maryvale College, McAuley House School and Holy Family College, participated in the careers day.
Pupils were able to choose from a number of stalls where practitioners showcased various careers.
The chefs association, accountancy, insurance, nursing and medicine, travel and tourism were just some of the industries showcased, ensuring that there was something for everyone.
Four universities were also represented so that the pupils had the opportunity to enquire about courses and entrance requirements.
“We were delighted with the response,” said John Symons, president of Rosebank Rotary.
“We not only had wonderful feedback from the learners who attended but we also received a lot of encouragement from the universities and the professional organisations represented. They hoped that we would run it again next year,” he said.
Symons said the committee which organised the event already had ideas as to how the experience could be improved for pupils attending in the future.
Dr Mark Potterton, principal of Holy Family College said he was delighted with the morning, and his pupils had said how much they had benefited from the experience.
“Grade 12’s need as much input as possible when it comes to career choices,” he said. “The opportunity they had to meet and question people who are working in areas such as fashion and retail, careers that many of our girls aspire to, was invaluable.”
