Body Worlds Vital now open

JOBURG - The Sci-Bono Discovery Centre in Newtown has officially unveiled its exciting new exhibition that allows you to get a look at every fascinating detail of the human body.

Great World Exhibitions SA presents Body Worlds Vital and just like its predecessor, Body Worlds, it is really something to see.

“Body Worlds Vital allows everyone the chance to find out about how the body works,” said curator and conceptual designer of the exhibition, Dr Angelina Whalley.

“People who have come to the exhibition have seen things that have made them commit to stop smoking and exercise more.”

More exciting than the possibility of the exhibition changing one’s mindset, is that of the 180 specimens on display, most of them are real human body donations that have been preserved through the process of plastination. This process is used to preserve bodies or body parts; the water and fat are replaced by certain plastics which mean specimens can be touched, and they do not smell or decay.

A number of schools, including King David’s School, attended the opening day of the exhibition on 1 March. The scholars were able to see the human body in a way that they had never seen it before and will, therefore, be able to incorporate what they’ve seen into their school work.

The exhibition, however, is not only suited for scholars, but also for families who have an interest in learning about the inner workings of the human body. Sportsmen and women can take a look at the way muscles contract when playing soccer and basketball, intellectuals get the chance to see the way the human body works while playing a game of chess and people who are merely interested in the body can take a look at the nervous system, harmful effects of lifestyle choices and so much more.

Speaking about the Sci-Bono Centre, CEO David Kramer said, “Sci-Bono has become one of the top leisure destinations in South Africa. We connect science and entertainment.”

There’s no better place to learn and play this year. Catch the exhibition from 1 March to 19 June.
