Norwood police arrest two for possession of dagga

NORWOOD – Norwood police made two arrests for possession of dagga in Norwood and Orange Grove.

 

Norwood police arrested two suspects for possession of dagga in Orange Grove and Norwood on 3 May.

One of the arrests was made on the corner of Louis Botha Avenue and Garden Road in Norwood at about 7.20am when patrolling Metro police officers approached a hawker who was selling sweets and biscuits at the intersection. Spokesperson for the Norwood police Captain Elliott Tshivhase said the officers suspected that the man was smoking dagga which prompted them to search him.

Upon searching him they discovered 29 small plastic bags of dagga weighing about 0.052kg. They then arrested the 30-year-old suspect before detaining him at the Norwood Police Station.

The other arrest was made on the corner of Louis Botha Avenue and 6th Street in Orange Grove when patrolling police officers spotted a man walking along the road. Tshivhase added that the officers stopped and requested to search the man. They found a transparent bag containing 19 small packets of dagga weighing 0.036kg. The suspect was also arrested and taken to the Norwood Police Station.

Both suspects were charged with the possession of dagga and appeared in the Hillbrow Magistrates’ Court on 4 May.
