Spokesperson for Jeppe Police Station, Captain Richard Munyai said, “The two women turned to change direction crossing over to the other side. When they reached Fox and Grace streets in Fairview they saw the same men approaching them and one of the men took out a knife and demanded cellphones from the women.
“The victim then gave the convicted her cellphone worth R1 000. The suspects took it and ran away,” said Munyai.
While the incident was happening, Munyai said the police were driving past and the victim stopped them and reported the matter.
“The police took her inside their police van and drove around looking for the suspects. They spotted them and managed to arrest one of them. Ngcobo was taken to Jeppe Police Station where he was charged and detained.”
The case was investigated by Constable Enos Makamu and on 12 May, the convicted was found guilty and sentenced to eight years in prison.
