The Yeoville police are calling on all residents to remain vigilant during the upcoming Easter weekend.
Spokesperson for the Yeoville police, Captain Sifiso Mabizela said the weekend is the longest in our calendar year and calls on community members to be alert and report any suspicious behaviour.

“We wish members of the community a safe, joyous and blessed holiday. To those who will be travelling to different places during the holidays, avoid keeping hard cash in places likely to attract criminals, ascertain the roadworthiness of transportation used, don’t drink and drive.”
Mabizela said that residents around Observatory should inform the police of any suspicious motor vehicles due the incidents of house robbery in the area. He added, “Residents are urged to be extra cautious around Raleigh to Rocky streets with their bags, cell phones, laptops and other goods especially when left inside their motor vehicles. Please, triple check that the doors are locked.”
Mabizela also called on members of stokvels to avoid travelling with large sums of money or share it physically, but rather try and make electronic transfers.
“Finally those who will be leaving our area. please leave your premises with someone you can trust or ask for someone to keep regular checks to avoid housebreakings and damage to properties.”
Mabizela encouraged community members to take part in any events hosted by their local community policing forum and to promptly provide information on crime in the area. He said the police will have a zero tolerance for crime during this season, with extended police visibility.
“Remember public drinking is still an offence and you will be arrested.”
