Norwood police officer shines at the national championship games

Norwood – Officer Miya was the only athlete representing the Norwood Police Station at the championship games.

 

Norwood police officer, Captain Madoda Miya has made his colleagues proud after sweeping six medals at the South African Police Service’s Athletics National Championship games in Pretoria.

The championship games were held from 19 to 23 March at Tshwane Police Academy with various police stations participating in track and field events.

Miya was the only officer representing the Johannesburg north-east-based police station and managed to win two gold and two silver medals to put their station on the championship flags.

He received a silver medal for second place in the 800m road race, another silver medal for second place in the 1 500m race and two gold medals in the 5 000m and cross-country race, respectively.

Norwood Police Station spokesperson, Captain Elliot Tshivhase said Miya has made them proud and they also appreciate what he did for their station.

“Actually we’re very grateful to officer Miya,” said Tshivhase.

“This is a joyous moment for our police station and considering that he was the only one participating in the championship games, we’re very happy for him.”

Tshivhase said Miya’s achievements are highly appreciated and further thanked other police officers who supported Miya throughout his journey.

“We are very excited and under the command of acting station commander, Colonel Alpheus Mahasha, Miya was well supported.

“We hope his achievements will encourage more of our officers to participate in these games which are held annually,” he said.
