Miss SA 2020 inspires learners to ‘Find their Magic’
SAXONWOLD – “Musida inspired our kids by encouraging them to follow their dreams and to speak up about bullying as a child, and through her book, she shows that it is possible to persevere despite adversity,” Cilliers said.
In line with the school’s anti-bullying campaign, Shudufhadzo Musida, Miss South Africa 2020, visited Saxonwold Primary School on November 4 to address the school’s learners about bullying.
“Musida’s visit was geared toward promoting her book on bullying and engaging the school’s learners in talks about the topic”, said Frankie Cilliers, head of innovation at Saxonwold Primary School.
This important topic is further highlighted in her book ‘Shudu Finds her Magic’ where she speaks about the bullying she experienced as a child.
Besides following your dreams and always putting your best foot forward, Musida spoke about following your potential and always taking positive steps forward, a theme that provides inspiration for the school’s young minds.
Cilliers told the Gazette that Musida’s visit to the school was very inspiring for the learners as many look up to her.
“Musida inspired our kids by encouraging them to follow their dreams and to speak up about bullying as a child, and through her book, she shows that it is possible to persevere despite adversity,” Cilliers said.
As one of Johannesburg’s multicultural public schools, Saxonwold’s role is to provide instructions and demonstrations on how learners can incorporate values into their daily lives, at school and beyond, through its lessons that focus on values.
Musida has been visiting many schools in South Africa to raise awareness and educate children about mental health issues in a way they can understand.
In her book, Musida states, “The book is aimed at children between four and 12 years of age and deals with bullying and the power of friendship. I hope that youngsters will be able to see themselves reflected in the storyline and be able to take something positive away from it.”
“We are grateful for Musida’s visit thanks to Robyn Joffe and Charmaine Rogers, our librarian. A special thanks is also extended to our acting principal, and the school’s management for ensuring the event takes place even during a pandemic,” Cilliers concluded.
