Boys craft message of hope

Ridge boys' Mandela Day message brought many to tears.

The Ridge School boys celebrated Mandela Day with the message of the film Mission Joy instilled in them.

Recently, the school hosted the premier of Mission Joy, a film that covers the friendships of Archbishop Desmond Tutu and the Dalai Lama. Since then, the school motto is where boys are known and grown.

The learners had an opportunity to remember and revisit the tenets of Nelson Mandela’s legacy by creating 700 ‘bags of joy’ which found their way to The Hope School, Salvazione Christian School, and CHOC.

Learners made the bags by folding paper, stapling and threading ribbon, and crafting a message of love, hope, kindness, joy, or better yet, a combination of all, and then finally popping in two little sweets.

Sarah Carmichael, the Ridge School PA chair 2022, said, “The messages the boys crafted left few dry eyes in the rooms of packers. You are a legend, never forget that.”
