Belinda Echeozonjoku commends the active citizenry in Ward 74
Ward 74 councillor, Belinda Echeozonjoku said illegal buildings, Illegal commutes and land use violations still remain prevalent issues in her ward.
Ward 74 councillor and Joburg’s DA caucus leader Belinda Echeozonjoku said although her ward still experiences major issues, active citizenry made it a fulfilling year.
She explained that major issues in her ward include illegal buildings, illegal commutes, land use violations, noise pollution over weekends and lack of by-law enforcement.
“We established that where JMPD assisted regarding noise complaints, they reminded us that it is not their competency, which poses a serious challenge. Environmental Health is responsible for dealing with noise pollution and does not work over weekends.
Echeozonjoku praised Waverly residents for being proactive and raising funds to fence in areas around the parks and being in the process of getting park adoption done.
“It is with immense pride and humility that I thank all the active citizenry happening in our ward. The securing of James and Ethel Gray Park by the James and Ethel Gray Park Foundation and the upgrades in the park cannot go unnoticed and I am grateful that they ensured that all compliance requirements were met and it has finally opened.”
Echeozonjoku commended the response time from Bramley and Norwood police stations.
She concluded that her ward held several successful clean-ups this year, “I want to wish all our residents a wonderful festive season.”
